The UK’s first ever Young Adult Literary Convention – or YALC to its friends – took place this past weekend, in conjunction with the London Film and Comic Con at Earls Court in London. And we were there!
Chapter 5, our sister community which specializes in YA, set up a booth and gave away chocolates and wristbands, and anyone who wanted could enter to win an iPad mini. Anyway, it was a great couple of days and we all had a blast meeting readers and fans and authors and everyone else! We had some other adventures, too…
Among the many amazing guests at the con was Buffy alum Juliet Landau (Drusilla, I’m sure I don’t need to tell you). She looked incredibly sharp in a tailored blazer and sunglasses (which she was wearing indoors like a boss). Fleur tried to snap a picture, but the crowds were dense enough that she wasn’t 100% successful.
But, of course, we were primarily there for the book events – and boy did they not disappoint! The talks were fantastic and the signings had wonderful long lines. And there’s something really quite gratifying about having people walk by your stand, realize you publish a book they love, and tell you so.
And, of course, there were tons of costumes we loved, (including an entire Superfamily – Clark Kent mid-change, Supergirl and teeny Supergirl Jr.!) and hundreds of t-shirts, bags, badges nand accessories that we coveted. We can’t wait till next year’s YALC – which should be even bigger and better! See you then!
