Keeping with the alphabetical theme, for today’s Wednesday Wonder, we’re onto the letter C and one of my personal favourite mythological characters…

In Greek mythology, the son of Erebus and Nox, the old man who ferried the spirits of the dead over the Rivers Styx and Acheron for the fare of an obolus.

And as a little bonus…

Charon’s toll: A coin placed in the mouth or hand of the dead by ancient Greeks to pay Charon for ferrying the spirit across the rivers of the underworld to Elysium.
