From Westeros to Middle-Earth, Earthsea to Narnia, fantasy authors know how to build a world that will invite us in and make us never want to leave. But how well do you really know your favourite worlds?
Every reader loves that moment when you open a book and find a map of the world you’re about to throw yourself into. Whether it’s a hasty sketch or an intricately drawn work of art, a map can make all the difference in helping the world come to life. You can see Mount Doom looming over Frodo from the very beginning of Lord of the Rings, remind yourself exactly which city Daenerys Targaryen is trying to conquer this time or just fantasize about which piece of fantasy real estate you’d like to place your dream home. But how well do you know these maps? Test out your knowledge with our quiz.
Number 13 is wrong. It IS Scott Lynch!
Right you are! Fixed.
how come I can never do this with an Ordnance Survey map?
I can’t believe I got the last one wrong. I’m reading the right answer at the moment!
Whoever wrote this, you know how to make a good arltcie.
Number 9 should be “Brandon” Sanderson. And sorry to be nitpicky, it’s “A Song of Ice and Fire”, not the “Game of Thrones series”.
Kind of funny how similar a lot of these maps are!
Whoops! Thanks for pointing out. Have corrected! 🙂
Thank you! This is a great quiz and now I have a few books to add to my goodreads list!

This is a great quiz that has given me some new ideas for books to read, but there are still a few typos.
Christopher Paolini’s name ends in -lini, not -loni. (Questions 6, 9, and 13)
The Shannara Chronicles is spelled with double n in the middle. (Question 6)
Philip Pullman has only one l in Philip. (Question 14)
