Where at when you can catch your favourite authorsĀ at Nine Worlds!

Con season kicks off tomorrow with the Nine Worlds Geekfest, and we’ll be there! And so will many of our authors:

Friday

1.30-2.45: Mythology and Fairytales: pernicious supernaturalism or meaningful exploration of existence? Where do myths and fairytales come from, and how are they influencing genre today? Panelists: Lauren Beukes, Rochita Loenen Ruiz, John Connolly, Aishwarya Subramanian, Joanne Harris.

5.00 – 6.15: Looking Forwards: What does the future hold? And how will it influence the books we read? A panel with all the answers. Panelists: Nick Harkaway, Sarah Lotz, Fabio Fernandes, Lauren Beukes.

6.45 – 8.00 pm: Love and Sex: An intimate exploration. From shipping to sex scenes, from erotica to WTFica. Panelists: Rebecca Levene, Laurie Penny, Sarah Lotz, Tiffani Angus.

8.00 – 10.30 pm: Cthulhu: Ph’nglui mglw’nafh Cthulhu R’lyeh wgah’nagl fhtagn. Four authors sit down to a game of Call of Cthulhu. Sanity optional. Gamers: Scott Lynch, Rebecca Levene, Jonathan Howard, Kim Curran.

Saturday

3.15 – 4.30: Westerns: Saddle up – we’re off to the not-so-distant past to find the secrets of this rough and tumble genre. Panelists: Will Hill, John Hornor Jacobs, Joanne Harris, Stark Holborn.

6.45 – 8.00: Noir: The dirty streets of fiction. Panelists: Daniel Polansky, Sara Townsend, Francis Knight, John Connolly, Will Hill.

10.15 – 11.30: New Voices! The Class of 2014 will be reading from their new books. Stark Holborn will be giving a reading from his – or her? – wonderful Nunslinger.

10.00 – 11.15 am: African Speculative Fiction: From Who Fears Death to Zoo City, African SF/F is winning our hearts (and shelves). What books and authors should we be reading next? Panelists: Geoffrey Ryman, Ivor Hartmann, Sarah Lotz, Tade Thompson.

11.45 – 1.00 pm: Spock versus the Sorcerers! The ultimate genre deathmatch smackdown! In the debate between science fiction and fantasy, which side will win? Debators: Daniel Polansky, Zen Cho, Geoffrey Ryman, Liz Bourke. (Anne is moderating.)

3.15 – 4.30: Epic Fantasy. The Panel of Prophecy! And lo, it was prophecised that the heroes of the epic fantasy genre would ascend to the Nine Worlds, where they would battle the Evil One with the Sword of Banter and Wand of Quick Wit +2. Panelists: Scott Lynch, Rebecca Levene, Elizabeth Bear, Gaie Sebold.
